Botox Injections
Injections of appropriate doses of Botox Cosmetic weaken muscles which contract to cause wrinkles and creases. Expression is still possible but creases don’t form and wrinkles are reduced or eliminated. Results may take 7-10 days to occur and last 4 months on average. Frown lines between the brows take 25-38 units, brow elevation 33-48 units, crow’s feet 10-16 units, horizontal forehead lines 20-50 units, lip lines 4-10 units all depending on the surface area and thickness of the muscle. Young patients can prevent long-term creases and older patients may require filler to further reduce established lines. $12/unit as of 3/08

Facial Fillers
State of the Art Techniques Exclusive to Dr. Stampar and Spago The use of injectable materials to reduce lines, wrinkles, and folds is one of the most popular age erasers at any age. These treatments require an understanding of aging skin, experience with the variety of products available, an artistic eye, and a gentle touch. At Spago, only a physician injects fillers, not physician assistants or nurses! Dr. Stampar is a trainer of other board certified facial plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and general plastic surgeons statewide and gives lectures on advanced techniques nationwide. The amount of filler needed to achieve the desired result varies with each patient and product, which is estimated at the time of consultation. All filler patients are given topical anesthetic and numbing injections as needed to make the experience as pain free as possible. All patients are invited back after two weeks for a touch up if the result is anything short of perfect.

Restylane/ Juvederm / Perlane Injections
These fillers, made of hyaluronic acid (HA’s), a substance found in our joint fluid and skin, are used to fill lines and grooves in the skin. By pushing the skin up the shadows created by overhead light are reduced resulting in less visible lines and grooves. Lip lines, frown lines, nasolabial folds between the nose and mouth, and marionette lines between the mouth and chin can all be reduced or eliminated. Minor dark circles under the eyes are easily improved. Hyaluronic acid fillers are also the best for making lips larger resulting in smoother and pinker natural looking lips. Results are immediate but swelling and redness can last a few days and bruising can occur lasting 4-10 days. No skin testing is required and results may last 4-12 months depending on the location. Both cost $600/ syringe. The amount needed for appropriate correction is discussed with each patient.

Radiesse Injections
Radiesse is soft tissue fillers used in all areas except the lips. It is a biocompatible and biodegradable calcium based material similar to microscopic bone. It is used in the deeper skin giving a more firm and longer lasting correction of lines, grooves, and hollows. Facial volume restoration, reproducing the younger fullness and shape, can be artistically sculpted using Radiesse for immediate results. Jowl and jawline sculpting is also popular. In general Radiesse will last twice as long as hyaluronic acid in most areas. A syringe of Radiesse costs $1000 and contains 30% more product than HA fillers. Transient sides effects such as bruising and swelling are essentially the same as HA fillers in my experience.

Sculptra
injections for restoration of facial soft tissue volume and shape: Most facial aging occurs as a result of soft tissue volume loss and the descent of the remaining tissues. Rather than solid fillers with immediate results, Sculptra can be thought of as seeds planted deep in the skin to grow new collagen. The face is shaped to the desired youthful contour with the particles in water. As the Sculptra particles are consumed in a controlled inflammatory response, collagen is laid down that thickens and firms the skin. Three to five sessions 4-8 weeks apart are needed for complete results, which may last 2-5 years. The amount of product needed can only be estimated and details are provided in a comprehensive consultation. Marketed as “the liquid facelift” in Europe, downtime is the same as any injectable but results can be as dramatic as some surgical procedures. The cost per treatment session ranges from $750-$2000.
